Day 1
You will be greeted by your guide at the hotel lobby in the morning. Your journey begins along Pan Borneo Highway which offers interesting landscape of small towns, native longhouses, pepper farm, oil palm estate and many more. A quick stop will be made at Serian Town for you to explore the local farmer market. Lachau town is the next stop for lunch and also for you to purchase some gifts for your Iban host family. The journey continues to Batang Ai jetty where a boat will take you across to Batang Ai Longhouse Resort. Upon arrival, you have to check-in before you go roaming in the resort.
Day 2
After breakfast, a longboat is waiting for your trip to the Iban’s longhouse. The journey will pass through lakes crystal clear streams and an amazing rainforest. Upon arrival, you will be taken on a tour of the longhouse and to meet the entire Iban families living there. To welcome your visit, the Ibans will sound their gongs and perform the ngajat, a traditional war dance. Please feel free to join them and have fun even if you do not understand their language!
Do not leave their “home” before trying their home-made rice wine known as tuak. There are 2 kinds of tuak: the Tuak Induk or Mother wine and Tuak Apai or Father wine. The Tuak Induk is sweet and tangy because it’s meant for the women whereas Tuak Apai is sour and strong, specially made for men who enjoyed a little “kick” to their drink.
Lunch will be served at the riverbank and before leaving the natives will give you a demonstration of their blowpipe or sumpit, an ancient weapon used for hunting large wild animals. You will then take a longboat ride back to your resort and have a good night’s rest.
Day 3
After breakfast at the resort’s restaurant, you will begin the journey via the same route back to Kuching city. A stop-over will be made at Ranchang Pool Waterfall for lunch before you reached your hotel in the city.
